Peanut Butter

Truth be told, once I discovered how easy it is to make homemade peanut butter, I never looked back at the store-bought kind! First and foremost, I prefer controlling what goes into my peanut butter. I’ve made it a habit to check labels, and I was surprised to find that store-bought peanut butter often contains not-so-healthy ingredients like palm oil or other unwanted ingredients. Since I stick to simple whole foods as a life principle, I decided to give this one-ingredient homemade peanut butter a try. It takes less than 30 minutes and is usually cheaper than the store-bought variety, offering one of the most delicious and versatile spreads around - Peanut Butter!

All it takes is peanuts, a few minutes of your time, and a trusty blender!

Simple Ingredients: The basic recipe requires just one ingredient - raw peanuts! Although you can experiment with spices and flavors like adding a pinch of salt, maple syrup, or even cinnamon, I find that the basic recipe works best. It’s incredibly versatile and can be used in various recipes, including savory dishes!

Quality Peanuts: Start with high-quality unsalted peanuts that you can roast yourself.

Roasting: Ensuring the peanuts roast evenly is crucial. Spread them in a single layer on a baking sheet and roast them in the oven until they attain a beautiful golden brown color. Shake the pan occasionally for uniform roasting. It typically takes 10-15 minutes at 175°C, but keep an eye on them as roasting times may vary.

Patience is Key: Be patient during the blending process. Initially, the peanuts will resemble a coarse mixture, but eventually, they’ll release their oils and transform into a smooth, buttery texture.

Good Blending: Using a powerful blender or food processor is recommended. However, even less expensive versions can yield great results; it might just take a bit longer. Blend the roasted peanuts for several minutes, pausing occasionally to scrape down the sides. When you achieve your desired consistency, your peanut butter is ready!

Remember, experimentation is key to discovering your perfect homemade peanut butter recipe. Adjust the roasting time, add a bit of salt, or try different peanut varieties until you find the taste and texture that suit you best!
