Burger Buns

Hi there burger lover! If you are looking for the perfect burger buns that are also vegan, you are in the right place. Pillowy soft, coconut-buttery, and fluffy perfection!

Tips:

  1. These burger buns have two rise stages, making them fluffy and perfect rounded. Don’t skip none of them!

  2. Knead for 10 minutes to work the gluten, which is crucial for the texture of the buns. To knead, you want to fold the dough over onto itself, then push into a ball. Fold and push.

Instructions

  1. Flax egg
Whisk together the grounded flax seeds and water in a small mixing bowl, until well combined. Let the mixture rest for 5 - 10 minutes to thicken.
  2. Combine all dough ingredients in a bowl (or in the mixer bowl if using one) in the following order: water, salt, vegan egg, coconut oil, sugar, flour and yeast. Mix together with a spatula until just incorporated.
  3. Knead the dough until firm
Flour a clean surface and then pour the dough on top. Flour your hands and fold the dough together. Knead the dough for about 8 - 10 minutes. For your convenience and for making your life easier, you could knead the dough using a mixer having a dough hook, like KitchenAid. You will end up with a dough ball.
  4. First rise
Preheat your oven to 35C (95F). Place the ball back in the bowl and let it sit in the oven for 30 minutes (the first rise). The dough should rise and double in size.
  5. Second rise
Take the dough out from the oven and bowl. Divide the dough into equal parts (each serving is considered a bun) and roll each into a ball to form a round loaf. Place the loafs back in the over for another 30 minutes (the second rise).
  6. Glaze each loaf with vegetable milk using a pastry brush and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  7. Bake the buns
Place the rolls on a flat baking rack and cook them in a hot oven for 25 minutes at 180C (360F).
